Ubuntu has released its latest Operating system Ubuntu 14.10 with codename Utopic Unicorn. Ubuntu 14.10 will be supported for 9 months for Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu Server, Ubuntu Core along with all other flavors.
Some of the New features in Ubuntu 14.10 are listed below :
- Linux Kernel 3.16 – fix bugs & new hardware support including expanded architecture support for Power 8 and arm64 platforms. It also includes support for Intel Cherryview, Haswell, Broadwell and Merrifield systems, and initial support for Nvidia GK20A and GK110B GPU’s.
- Unity Desktop fix bugs and provides improved features that support for High-DPI displays
- Firefox Version 33 & Chromium version 38
- LibreOffice 4.3 brings lot of improvements including PDF support & new features in Writer, Calc.
- Ubuntu 14.10 includes Cloud software OpenStack 2014.2 (Juno)
- Docker 1.2 is included in Ubuntu 14.10
- Libvirt 1.2.8 – Libvirt now provides cgmanager support allowing use of libvirt inside containers without cgroups mounted.
In this post we will discuss Ubuntu 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) Desktop Installation steps with Screenshots.
Step:1 Download Ubuntu 14.10 ISO file
Burn the ISO file into a DVD / USB drive and boot your system with the bootable media (DVD / USB ).
Step:2 Ubuntu Welcome Screen
Step:3 Click on ‘Install Ubuntu‘ Option
Step:4 Make sure your system is connected to Power supply & has atleast 7.1 GB space in the drive.
Click on Continue….
Step:5 Installation Type : –
- If we select first option “Erase disk & install Ubuntu” — It will removes all existing the data files along with operating and will install fresh ubuntu with default partition scheme.
- If you want to encrypt your drive for security purpose , then select the second option “Encrypt the new installation for security”
- If you want customize / manual partition scheme then select last option “Something else”
In My case i have choose “Something Else option”
Click on Continue….
Now define Your Partition Scheme.
Once you are done with partition scheme , click on ‘Install Now‘ option
Step:6 Select your respective Time Zone to adjust date & time of your system.
Click on continue….
Step:7 Select your Keyboard Layout and Click on Continue
Step:8 Define your system’s name (Hostname) and User Name & password.
Click on Continue….
Step:9 As we can see below Installation is in Progress. Once the Installation is completed , installer will ask to reboot the System.
Step:10 Reboot the Machine – click on Restart Now.
Step:11 Login Screen of Ubuntu 14.10.
Enter the credentials that you created during the installation and press enter.
Installation is Completed and now enjoy Ubuntu 14.10 🙂
