How To Install and Configure PlayOnLinux on Ubuntu 12.04

 

PlayOnLinux is a graphical tool to run windows-based applications(specially games ) on linux platform. The system provides wrapper shell scripts with a .pol filename extension which specify the configuration of Wine needed in order to

install and run a particular application. PlayonLinux is basically a graphical frontend for Wine.

 

Steps To Install and Configure PlayonLinux  :

 

Step:1

nextstep4it@localhost:~$ sudo wget -q "http://deb. playonlinux.com /public.gpg" -O- | sudo apt-key add -

 

We should get “OK” as ouput

 

Step:2 Add playonlinux repository

 

nextstep4it@localhost:~$ sudo wget http://deb.playonlinux.com/ playonlinux_precise.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/playonlinux.list

 

Step:3  nextstep4it@localhost:~$ sudo apt-get update

 

Step:4  nextstep4it@localhost:~$ sudo apt-get install playonlinux

 

if u get an error

Step:5 Run below command

 

nextstep4it@localhost:~$  sudo apt-get install curl p7zip-full p7zip-rar

 

Step:6 Access PlayonLinux

 

Method:1

Go To Applications--->Games---> Playonlinux

 

Method:2  Open the terminal and type below command :

 

nextstep4it@localhost:~$ sudo playonlinux

 

Step:7  When we start playonlinux first time,  click on “install” and follow the below steps.

Step:8  Install windows media player using playonlinux
